Cooler uses credit-based billing to allow you to purchase a fixed amount of credit (spendable money) to be used on foot printing and neutralization services.
We charge footprint and neutralization services separately in the following way:
Service | Frequency | |
---|---|---|
The credit based billing allows us to have the necessary funds in hand to go out quarterly and purchase permits on your behalf off the carbon market and tie these permits to your Cooler account. Additionally, we use this credit to pay for monthly footprint usage.
We recommend setting the following configurable options to authorize Cooler to automatically charge your payment method with a credit amount when a minimum credit threshold is reached. You will receive an email informing you that the charge succeeded or failed.
These options are available under the Account tab
Option | Description |
---|---|
Footprinting
Monthly
$99 per month fixed fee + $0.20 per API call
Neutralization
Quarterly
Actual cost for carbon permits that we buy, plus 20% of the cost of these permits for the Cooler fee. For a rule of thumb, we typically see the cost to be less than 0.5% of your MSRP for the item.
We will contact you to discuss within the first few weeks of receiving your transactions to confirm neutralization costs based on your actual carbon footprints and estimated carbon cost for us to purchase carbon credits.
Auto Top Up Balance
This boolean option will instruct Cooler to automatically charge the attached payment method with the Top Up Credit Amount
Top Up Credit Amount
This is the amount that the customer authorizes Cooler to charge the attached payment method when Minimum Credit Threshold is reached
Minimum Credit Threshold
This is the minimum amount of credit that the customer wants in their Cooler credit balance. When the credit balance eventually drops below this threshold, we use the Top Up Credit Amount to execute a charge on the tied payment method to have funds available in this account (if auto top up balance option is enabled)
